The Failure of Major Maxillary Sinus Lifts
1. When You Hear This Terminology?
This is the first question to ask. When could a patient be proposed the "major sinus lift" procedure (or sinus lift via lateral approach)?
It happens exactly when, after a visit to a traditional dental centre and the analysis of panoramic X-ray and CT, the diagnosis delivers the verdict: the posterior bone of the upper maxilla is completely thinned due to the fall or extraction of the old molars, and the air cavity of the maxillary sinus has "expanded" downwards, completely emptying the ridge.
That doctor or traditional centre — still bound to the old schemes of the alveolar bone — has no choice but to look you in the eyes and say: "Dear patient, there is no more bone here to place fixed implants. To insert the pins in the posterior areas, we must first perform a major surgical procedure: open the wall of the maxillary sinus, detach the internal membrane (Schneiderian membrane), fill all the space with synthetic, animal or human bone, and then wait 6 to 9 months for the new bone to form, hoping that the membrane does not break and that the organism does not reject the material".
2. The Ordeal: What the Patient Really Goes Through
Meanwhile, while you accept this imposing demolitive surgical procedure, have you ever asked yourself what they really do to you, how much pain you are enduring, how many months of waiting you have to suffer and how much money you are spending with zero guarantees?
- The physical suffering and surgical risks: The major sinus lift is a highly invasive procedure. The main risk is the perforation of the maxillary sinus membrane: if the membrane breaks during the detachment, the operation fails or you risk infections and devastating chronic sinusitis. Moreover, swelling, prolonged pain and persistent nasal congestion are the norm in the post-operative period.
- The success rates and the risk of failure: The inserted material must integrate perfectly and turn into vital bone. But if the body rejects it, if an infection occurs or if the vascularisation fails, the entire structure collapses and the patient finds himself back at square one, with months of suffering thrown away.
- The months of agony without fixed teeth: For months (often 6 to 9) the patient is forced to wait for the graft to mature, often without a real stable fixed rehabilitation or wearing precarious temporaries that weigh on social and psychological life.
3. The Startling Discovery: It Could Be Solved in 2 Hours
The underlying motivation that pushes you to accept this nightmare is the promise of having a strong mouth and being able to chew with the posterior molars.
But what would be the biggest surprise for you if you discovered that there is another way? That in reality a surgical technique existed capable of completely bypassing the maxillary sinus, without opening it, without filling it with foreign materials and without making you wait months?
Think how much such a procedure costs in terms of health and money, and think about the vulnerability of the artificially reconstructed bone under the load of daily chewing. Do you think it was right to inform you before making you risk the perforation of a sinus membrane? The answer is obvious. But traditional commercial medicine is careful not to do it.
4. How the Bilateral Sinus Solution™ Would Have Avoided All This
If that patient had been examined by a maxillofacial surgeon expert in human anatomy and dissection, included in our clinical network, the story would have been completely different from the first minute.
Here is how we would have treated exactly the same clinical situation — with "descended" maxillary sinuses and zero posterior alveolar bone — using the Bilateral Sinus Solution™ (BSS):
- Zero sinus lifts and zero membrane tears: We do not touch the maxillary sinuses, we do not open lateral bone windows and we do not insert any filling material. The risk of perforating the Schneiderian membrane or triggering chronic sinusitis is completely eliminated.
- The anchorage in the deep basal bone: Instead of losing months trying to reconstruct the bone that no longer exists, our specialists directly use the basal bone. Through strategic surgical positioning in zone 18 and 28, and passing through zones 15 and 25, the maxillary sinuses are elegantly and surgically bypassed, finding anchorage in very solid and eternal native pillars.
- The result in just 2 hours: The patient enters the clinic with the "descended" sinuses and the diagnosis of bone impossibility, and in just two hours leaves with a solid fixed structure, ready to support complete and strong chewing, without endless waits.
